About

Based in Middlemarch, I bring more than 20 years’ experience in journalism, public relations and freelance communications. Living rurally with my husband and three children on a sheep and beef farm allows me to work in a flexible way. Authenticity is central to my work - I create communications that resonate with readers and reflect real values.

“As volunteers on a charitable foundation, it can be challenging to maintain momentum and visibility when the role sits alongside our already busy lives. Alice keeps us relevant and ahead of the game. She leads our communications with energy and vision, helping to grow engagement and Foundation membership, and has been the driving force behind our Future Oaks fundraising campaign.

Alice is strategic, creative, and not afraid to think outside the square. She understands our tone, our audience, and what makes OBHS tick. She has a natural instinct for storytelling - crafting messages that feel authentic and resonate with everyone; from old boys to prospective families. We are very fortunate to have Alice as an integral part of our team.”

John Blaikie, Chairman OBHS Foundation

"I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Alice for any editorial work, particularly in the rural sector which she has a strong understanding and affinity for. Alice's engaging personality gets the best out of interview subjects and her copy is always extremely readable and clean. She is also very professional and easy to deal with - an editor's dream! I highly recommend her services, you won't be disappointed."

Sally Rae, Business and Rural Editor, Otago Daily Times

“I had the pleasure of working with and mentoring Alice during a fundraising project in 2025. I was taken with her willingness to listen, her ability to write concisely in the voice of the project and the relationships she was able to build. The art of Communication is a science, with a heart! Alice interprets and fully understands the concept and can translate that into a successful project.”

Irene Mosley, Results4U Ltd

"The Leaning Lodge Trust commissioned Alice to write a book documenting the construction of a new alpine hut on the Rock and Pillar Range for the Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club. From the outset, her guidance was clear, patient, and professional, giving our volunteer team the confidence to navigate an unfamiliar publishing process. Alice broadened the project’s scope to include the history of the original hut, local ecology, and activities on the range, and recommended interviewing key people to enrich the narrative. Her first write-up captured character and context so beautifully that we adopted this storytelling style for the whole book.
Alice also connected us with an excellent designer and publisher, both of whom integrated seamlessly. Together, they refined every detail, from layout and imagery to grammar and colour balance.
The final publication was outstanding, and feedback from funders, volunteers, and readers has been uniformly glowing. We recommend Alice wholeheartedly."

John Cocks, Leaning Lodge Trust

"I love working with Alice as she says yes to the brief, makes it happen, delivers excellent copy and often with a story idea for the next issue. She has a wide network of rural contacts and those she doesn’t know she is quick to make friends with to get their expertise or opinion to enhance the story. Alice is the definition of ‘if you want something done, ask a busy person’ as she is usually ahead of the deadline too."

LauraGrace McFarlane, Content Director - SCG Media (Farmlander)

"Alice has worked for us for three years doing editorials for the Charolais breeders NZ magazine. She has worked closely with our clients, taking photos and writing articles that showcase the individual farmer’ practises.

We highly recommend Alice for your editorial work, each piece gives significant depth and insight. We specifically like the fact that Alice's stories are exciting to read, full of key information, as well as the way she caters to our requirements. Alice is very easy to deal with professionally. She is punctual, easy to contact and takes pride in communication between herself and clients. We would highly recommend Alice's services to anyone in need of editorial assistance."
